Who Am I?
Thank you for checking out my website – I am James, a film director and videographer based on the UK South Coast, primarily working in the independent sector.

I trained as a performer for 8 years before my first directed piece, a music video for Dorset based band ‘Waiting For Earthquakes’. Every now and then I jump back in front of the camera, but my sole focus for the past 4 years has been to improve my filmmaking craft. My time as a performer greatly influences my directing style – I work closely with my subjects and build a trustful relationship with them, collaborating with many on multiple projects.

Character-driven films have always interested me the most, as I believe the exploration of honest people in exceptional situations is a major reason why we enjoy watching films. I'm described by Greg Hall as being “very thoughtful to the art form of directing and having a talent for the craft”. In 2019, I was nominated for the Critical Engagement Award at the SoFiAs (Solent Film Awards) which I think is a testament to the type of films I want to direct.

I am currently looking for a permanent role in the creative industry, primarily searching for a role as a videographer. I already have a wide array of work experience in a variety of events – from live concerts to weddings and training videos. Otherwise, you will find me in my local cinema enjoying the latest release of films (when they are open that is!).
